The Great Smokies

We took our first family trip in the minivan over spring break to see the Mammoth Cave and the Great Smoky Mountains.  We had a great time - we'll definitely be making that trip again someday.

Our first stop was in Louisville - we spent the night downtown and visited the Louisville Slugger museum and factory.  We also had a drink at the Louisville Bats ballpark (minor league) and ate dinner at a really good BBQ restaurant (the name escapes me at the moment).

Pork rinds, bacon, and ice cream?  Why not?

One of Weston's favorite things to do was sit next to the window in the Louisville Hotel

Next stop was Mammoth Cave the following morning.  The boys did really well in the cave - we were worried they might freak out a little bit, but they were good little spelunkers.

After Mammoth Cave, we drove straight to our cabin in the Smokies - it was a long day, but well worth the drive.

The Great Smoky Germans!

Our view from the cabin
The boys loved hitting the hot tub (as did we) after a long day of exploring

Our little climbers

This is one crazy family

Mountain climbers!

Weston was obsessed with having a picnic, so we found a nice quiet spot on the west side of the smokies, picked up some local BBQ and had a picnic!

Weston, being Weston.  Not pictured - Mommy hiding behind the rock in case Weston fell off - of course.

Scratch North Carolina off our lists!

We also hiked the Appalachian Trail....for about 2 steps.

Naked Donkey Kong anyone?

Luke's journal of the trip - the boys each have a National Park Passport booklet - we have a goal to get to as many parks as we can
